Happy New Year! Sister and Bartlett

Ancient Sea Monsters

Contrary to popular belief, the sailors of Columbus's day did not think they would sail right off the edge of the earth. They were, however, apprehensive about what they would find in their travels. Mistakes about marine life have ranged from inaccurate assumptions about the behavior of known species to fanciful depictions of animals that "might" exist. I learned alot about ancient beliefs at this web site. http://www.strangescience.net/stsea2.htm

Rare White Buffalo

By EMILY FREDRIXAssociated Press WriterMILWAUKEE (AP) - A farm in Wisconsin is quickly becoming hallowed ground for American Indians with the birth of its third white buffalo, an animal considered sacred by many tribes for its potential to bring good fortune and peace."We took one look at it and I can't repeat what I thought but I thought, 'Here we go again,'" said owner Dave Heider.Thousands of people stopped by Heider's Janesville farm after the birth of the first white buffalo, a female named Miracle who died in 2004 at the age of 10. The second was born in 1996 but died after three days.Heider said he discovered the third white buffalo, a newborn male, after a storm in late August.Over the weekend, about 50 American Indians held a drum ceremony to honor the calf, which has yet to be named. Go here the all the story. Thank you Linda.

Bees Make A Hive in A Jar

A bell jar was placed on top of a mini hive and bees from the nucleus started to create foundation of a hive in the jar. The World's Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

I don’t often cook, in fact I only really know how to make about a dozen things. That’s ok though since the foods I do make are top notch. At the apex of my culinary treasures are my oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, they’re delicious, they’re soft, they’re chewy. In short, they are the best cookies in the world. If I were a shrewder man I’d keep the recipe to myself, open up a shop in the mall and put Mrs. Fields out of business. I’m not going to do that though; I don’t like malls, customer interaction or applying for loans. Plus, I’m a bit of a commie and I feel my cookies will better serve the people if I offer up the recipe for all to share. Law-Breaking Liquid

LOOK HERE!!! Physicists in France have discovered a liquid that "freezes" when it is heated. Marie Plazanet and colleagues at the Université Joseph Fourier and the Institut Laue-Langevin, both in Grenoble, found that a simple solution composed of two organic compounds becomes a solid when it is heated to temperatures between 45 and 75°C, and becomes a liquid when cooled again. The team says that hydrogen bonds are responsible for this novel behaviour (M Plazanet et al. 2004 J. Chem. Phys 121 5031). Dan Fogelberg's Life

Linda Emailed me with this story. Dan Fogelberg died on December 16th of cancer. This is taken from a Web Site about his life. Thanks, Linda. Read about Dan Fogelberg's whole life by going to the link below.

BiographyBy Paul ZolloFrom "Portrait - The Music of Dan Fogelberg from 1972-1997" (4 CD box set)It's one of his earliest memories: He's four years old, standing up on a box in front of his father's big band, baton in hand, conducting. Though his dad stood behind him, doing the real work, for Dan it was a foreshadowing of what his life would be -- following in his father's footsteps to become the leader of the band. "It was an amazing feeling," he declared decades later during a series of discussions for these notes. "To be immersed in music. It felt both very magical and powerful. And I was fearless."That fearlessness has led him far, as he developed into one of popular music's most gifted and successful singer-songwriters. With an early genius for both melody and harmony, a soulfully angelic singing voice, and a natural gift for romantic expression, Dan Fogelberg has created songs that have become so embedded in our collective consciousness that they still resound with authentic magic and beauty years after they first emerged. http://www.danfogelberg.com/biography.html

OBERLIN, Kan. - A postcard featuring a color drawing of Santa Claus and a young girl was mailed in 1914, but its journey was slower than Christmas. It just arrived in northwest Kansas. Hear Russ Bartlett's Music Here

Perhaps better know for years for his part in the early Grunge scene in his hometown of Seattle, Russell Bartlett has crossed untold music boundaries since the days of pay-to-play gigs in the same rainy moshes that spawned Soundgarden, Mudhoney, Mother Love Bone, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, etc, etc. Bartlett, who grew from the same beginnings (not to mention stages) as, say, Chris Cornell and Mark Lanegan, is considered by some to be among the finest songwriters of his ilk--whatever that is--in his adopted home country of Texas, from where he has been based since 1995. We plan to see Russ on New Year's up in the Everett Area. Go here to find out more about Russ Bartlett and hear his Tunes. http://www.russellbartlett.com/music.html I know they're available at http://www.cdbaby.com/ too.
Russell Bartlett News. From his web site. Dated Sept. 2007. Russ is currently in the studio in Austin, TX working on tracks for the new CD, "Dark Horse," scheduled for release in early 2008. "The Texas Years," a complilation of previously released songs, will be released by Gas Town Records in November 2007. Russ will hit the road October, followed by a European tour later in 2008. Running With NO Legs

Man With NO Legs-Too Abled To Compete?

Oscar Pistorius, (November 22, 1986) is a South African Paralympic runner. Known as the “Blade Runner” and “the fastest man on no legs”, Pistorius is the double amputee world record holder in the 100, 200 and 400 metres events and runs with the aid of carbon fibre transtibial artificial limbs.
Pistorius was given permission to compete with regular athletes in June this year, and ultimately hopes to compete at either the Beijing or the London Olympics.
However, the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) has serious concerns that his artificial legs might actually give him an unfair advantage. The federation has been using various cameras to study Pistorius’ running motion and want to get him into the lab for further analysis. Thank you Linda for this story.

Quote of the Week

“It’s curious that no allegedly Christian nation has adopted the Golden Rule as a basis for foreign policy. Christianity says that you should love your enemy. It certainly doesn’t say that you should vaporize his children.”Carl Sagan (1934-1996)American astronomer & astrochemist.

Merry Christmas and Good Blessing To All

Merry Christmas to All and Good Blessing in the next year. This is the time of year to send friends and loved ones 'Good Blessings' for the coming year. The picture below I've posted before, thought it would be right to post it again and wish everyone 'Good Blessings' for 2008. 'Good Blessing' was a Seattle band in 1971. There's Bartlett at 20 years old. The only one with glasses.
In 1972, he and Gordy Arlin began another band in the Seattle area called 'Cheese Burger Deluxe' The band members played characters while on stage and performing '50's' music. Bartlett left 'Cheese Burger' in 1975, replaced by Steve Barth. The band was renamed 'Thunder Road' in 1975 but disbanded in 1976.
May 2008 be filled with 'Good Blessings' to all. Love, Sister and Bartlett

OBJECT SEEN OVER THE EASTERN AND SOUTHEASTERN U. S. ON MONDAY, DECEMBER 10, 2007Our Center has received several reports from Alabama, Florida, North Carolina, and Georgia, Massachusetts, and Vermont of an object that was visible for approximately 45 minutes from each of those locations. We do not know, yet, what the object was, but from our experience with similar reports over past years, our suspicion is that the object may be a spent rocket, which was "parked" in high orbit, and from which the excess fuel was released from its fuel tanks. The fact that the object could be seen from both Williston, Florida, and Canada, at the same time suggests to us that the object was very large, and at a very high altitude above the surface of the Earth.
